Why we want to leave the UK

Up until 6 months ago the thought of selling everything we owned, taking our children out of school had never entered our heads, not to say life was always happy or easy until that point but equally there was no euphoric moment that happened. Our current home at the time of writing (January 2025) we brought off my husbands parents and is the home he grew up in and dreamed of raising our children here and that was always the plan. We built the life we always felt we wanted and the life that we felt we was expected to aim for in life, and for the most part we was happy. However life financially seemed to change so drastically over the last few years, household bills going up tenfold and the same food shop we had always done now twice as expensive. The money to go on holidays or days out just was not there anymore and my husband was now working 7 days a week with no quality of life and no family time. Weekdays merged into the weekends with the children growing up before our eyes and we felt we were missing out on making proper core memories with them! Life was starting to feel extremely monotonous and we were constantly searching for something to take away the feeling of frustration.

By chance Jake got into watching some Youtubers regularly who were traveling around Thailand and before we knew it we were both hooked! Seeing all these amazing parts of the world, rid of the chains of material items, just being present all looked incredible. Over autumn 2024 a fire began burning inside us with such a deep desire to go and explore the world with our children and by winter we made the ultimate decision to prepare our house to put on the market, remove our children from the education system and begin starting our travels.

The UK for us is not somewhere we feel currently that we can live the life we want, financially or morally. The UK does not feel safe and happy like it did when we was growing up, even walking down the street no body says hello or wants to help each other there just feels such a negative atmosphere and so many families struggling. However that is not to say the UK does not have tons of amazing qualities! We have spent years exploring all of Devon and Cornwall and living in the Midlands I can definitely vouch for the beauty which Derbyshire has to offer, if only pretty scenery could make up for the failings.

We have amazing family and friends in the UK and for however little or long we are away we will always be back to see our loved ones.
